Hella Looks – Action Zine Cover Story

For the third issue of Hella Looks, I developed, produced, and directed a powerful cover story featuring Fredrika Newton, highlighting the lasting legacy of the Black Panther Party. I led the creative direction for the shoot, sourcing original Black Panther Party newspaper clippings from the Huey P. Newton archive to craft a striking backdrop that visually connected past and present. The goal was to present civil rights history in an artful and approachable way, making its impact tangible for a new generation.

Beyond the visuals, I shaped the editorial narrative to explore Fredrika Newton’s ongoing work in her community and her dedication to preserving Huey P. Newton’s legacy as a pioneer in American history. Every element—from imagery to storytelling—was thoughtfully executed to honor the movement’s influence while positioning the feature as a compelling cultural moment. The result was a visually arresting and deeply resonant piece that bridged activism, history, and contemporary storytelling.
